Goldfish are very popular fish pets because they are inexpensive and have long life spans. They can survive in hard conditions as long as they have ample supply of oxygen. But proper goldfish care should always be given to pet goldfish.

Goldfish should be kept in an aquarium; contrary to popular belief that they should be placed in a goldfish bowls. These bowls have smaller water surface that provides less oxygen than aquariums. And goldfish can intoxicate the water quickly with their feces. 10 gallons of water is needed at a minimum for medium-sized goldfish. The water should be cleaned regularly to ensure their long life. A water filter or pump can also be used to help aerate the water.
