Training your pet

There are different ways by which you can housebreak a puppy. Two that will be described here are easy and effective. First, you can put down papers or pretreated pads, encouraging them to use these areas for going to the bathroom. The pads are scented with a chemical that attracts the puppy to use them. Whenever you see them starting into their “pre-potty pattern,” such as walking around and sniffing the floor, you gently pick them up without talking and carry them over to the papers/pad and then praise them when they go to the bathroom. When all is going well, you can start moving the paper towards the door and outside.
The second method involves the use of a crate. It should be a crate that is just large enough for them to stretch out when they sleep. The idea is that dogs do not like to mess up their sleeping space so they will try to control themselves. Training your pet in this manner will take more supervision on the owner’s part because it will require him to let the dog out of the cage at regular intervals so he can relieve himself. Every time you take him out, you should bring him to a place where you will want him to eliminate. Before long, he will acquire the habit of going out of the crate and going to this specific place when he needs to.
