This insurance is a safety net for the pet, in the event that they become ill or are injured. If you get your pet health insurance, you will take out and pay for a policy on a regular basis. If something untoward happens, the insurance company will reimburse part of the vet bills that are incurred. Pet health policies are similar to human health policies. The annual premium will depend on the type of coverage plan that the owner chooses. These plans are based on species, age, pre-existing conditions and in some cases, lifestyle of the pet.
Some packages are comprehensive, including such things as: annual checkups and vaccinations, routine care, preventive medications (like Heartworm preventive) and spay/neuter surgeries. Other plans cover only accident and illness. It is up to the pet owner to evaluate the kind of pet health insurance that they should get. But even before that, they should determine if their pets will actually need one. Some pets are just stay at home pets. If they are fed well and are kept clean there is no reason to incur additional expense by getting them pet health insurance.
