Putting the dog on a leash is a common practice among owners when they bring their pets outside of the house. These days, however, more and more are using a harness. A dog harness is similar to the harness tack used on horses. There are different designs depending on the function: guiding a disabled person, moving a cart or sled, and so on. They are originally popular for use on working dogs but now are also common among non-working pets.

A dog harness is better than a leash because it:

~ prevents the dog from choking
~ lowers the chance of the dog slipping out
~ reduces stress especially on small dogs
~ is easier for the handler to control
