The basic thing about dog crates is that it should be the right size for your pet. Small dogs need small dog crates. This means that he should be comfortable lying down and standing up. It can be a problem getting a crate for a puppy. You will have to estimate his need for when he grows bigger; or maybe you can just get him a bigger sized crate when he is fully grown.

Dogs should be trained to be as much comfortable staying inside a crate as staying out. The dog might resist staying in his crate in the beginning especially when still a puppy. Being a social animal he prefers to be close to his master. This is where the reward system can help. Dogs learn quickly when their behavior is associated with a reward.
