Collars are very useful for pet owners. These contraptions help in restraining a dog from chasing something without permission. They also serve their purpose when walking a dog and you need somewhere to attach a leash. In terms of training, a dog collar also allows an owner to communicate with his pet.
It is not intended as a form of punishment, rather a form to reprimand a certain behavior immediately after it has taken place. This helps the dog understand that there is a connection between the behavior and the sharp tug on the collar. Some dog collars also serve to kill fleas and ticks using a special formulation incorporated in the collar.
