I don’t think it is normal practice to cage a cat, unless it is for travel Animal enclosures are sometimes necessary for their safety and well being. Putting them in a cage at night and locking it will ensure that they are still there in the morning. A cat can roam around the neighborhood and get lost. Cat cages are also necessary in the day time when they are being litter trained. You don’t want your untrained cat roaming around the house and claiming territories.
To ensure that your cat is happy in his cage, make it as comfortable as possible. He will need a warm bed and some play toys. Choose a cage for your cat that is easy to clean. Washing with hot water and soap will remove irritating smells that can permeate the surroundings. It should also be furnished with food and water bowls.
